Cat budget worksheet · Reviewed November 3, 2026

Plan a first-year cat budget from your own quotes

Organize one-time cat setup, monthly care and annual costs into a first-year budget using your own local quotes and household choices.

Plan the first 12 months with amounts you collect for your cat, local providers and household. This worksheet has no default prices, and the categories are prompts rather than a list of required purchases or services. A kitten, an adult cat, and a cat with individual health needs can have different plans.

One-time setup amounts

Enter your own adoption or transfer fee, planned purchases and any initial written estimate. Leave an item blank or enter zero when it does not apply.

Monthly recurring amounts

Use monthly amounts. Convert a quote with a different billing interval yourself before entering it.

Annual recurring quotes

Enter yearly quotes or renewals not already included in a monthly amount.

Enter your amounts, then calculate.

Method: one-time setup + (monthly recurring total × 12) + annual recurring total. It assumes entered monthly costs continue for the full year. It excludes unentered costs, emergencies, price changes and changes in care needs. This is a planning worksheet, not a quote or forecast.

Care planning prompts

AVMA advises that cats need regular veterinary checkups. ASPCA notes that a veterinarian can assess an individual cat or kitten and that age, activity and health affect feeding. Use these sources to prepare questions, not to infer a required service schedule or diet for your cat.

Prepare available vaccine history and discussion prompts with the dog and cat vaccination visit checklist.

For adoption handoff records and emergency contacts, use the adoption first-year checklist. For continuing costs, use the pet cost planner, estimate cat food spending from a daily amount you have already chosen with the cat food cost calculator, or use the emergency fund planner for a savings goal you choose. The food budget guide explains label-based arithmetic and when to ask a veterinary team. See the puppy first-year planner for a separate dog-specific worksheet. Product referrals are inactive.

How it works

Enter one-time setup amounts, monthly recurring amounts and annual recurring quotes from your own plans and local providers. The worksheet totals one-time setup + 12 months of monthly costs + annual recurring amounts.

Good to know

Does this worksheet say what a cat should cost?

No. It has no default prices or required purchases. It totals the amounts you enter for your household, cat and location.

How should I estimate veterinary care?

Ask a veterinary team what applies to this individual cat, share any records you have, and request an itemized estimate. The worksheet does not prescribe care or a schedule.

Does the first-year total predict all costs?

No. It assumes entered recurring amounts continue for 12 months and excludes anything you do not enter, emergencies, price changes and changes in care needs.

first-year total = one-time setup amounts + (monthly recurring amounts × 12) + annual recurring amounts

Output (USD): First-year arithmetic total based only on visitor entries; it is not a cost forecast or care recommendation.
