Calculate your dog food cost per day, month, and year
Estimate dog food costs per day, month and year from package price, net weight and a daily amount already chosen for each dog.
Estimate your dog food cost per day, 30.4-day month, and year from the package price and a daily amount you have already chosen for each dog. Use the same weight unit for package net weight and daily amount (for example, grams and grams). This calculator does not recommend how much to feed. For cat-specific budgeting, use the cat food cost calculator.
Enter your package and feeding amounts, then calculate.
Method: package price ÷ package net weight × daily amount per dog × dog count. Monthly estimate uses 30.4 days; yearly estimate uses 365 days. Assumes all listed dogs eat the same amount and ignores waste, discounts, treats, other foods and portion changes.
Check the package’s net quantity and feeding directions. FDA says pet food labels include a net quantity statement; label guidance does not determine an individual dog’s needs. Ask your veterinary team what amount suits your dog. See the food budget guide for label-reading context and the nutritional adequacy statement guide to understand the complete-and-balanced claim. Use the pet food portion planner for label-calorie arithmetic, the dog food cost-per-calorie comparator to compare package prices against label kcal/kg, and the pet cost planner for a broader household budget. Compare planned cat dry and wet amounts with the dry versus wet food cost calculator. Product referrals are inactive.

How it works
Enter the package price, package net weight, daily amount already selected for each dog, and number of dogs eating that amount. Package weight and daily amount must use the same unit.
Good to know
How is dog food cost per month estimated?
The calculator divides package price by package net weight, then multiplies by the daily amount entered for each dog and the number of dogs. It multiplies the daily estimate by 30.4 for a monthly estimate and assumes every listed dog eats the same amount and that package and portion units match.
Does this calculator tell me how much to feed?
No. Enter an amount you have already chosen from the package directions or discussed with your veterinary team. Package directions do not determine every individual dog’s needs.
Does this compare nutrition or food quality?
No. It estimates only the cost represented by your inputs. It does not assess nutritional adequacy, suitability, or whether different foods are equivalent.
