Compare written pet dental-care estimates
Organize written dog or cat dental estimates, note included services and open questions, and compare entered low and high amounts without predicting treatment or price.
Organize written dental-care estimates for the same pet and proposed plan. Copy each clinic’s low and high totals as written, mark only services the estimate explicitly includes, and note what could change the amount. This worksheet compares the figures you enter; it does not predict a dental bill or recommend a procedure.
Shared comparison context
A dental plan may be shaped by examination findings. Even estimates for the same visit can cover different work, so a lower total does not show that plans are equivalent.
Written clinic estimates
Clinic 1
Clinic 2
2 estimates listed (maximum 4).
Enter low and high totals from at least two written estimates.
Method: this page displays each low–high range exactly as entered and calculates differences between corresponding endpoints. Enter U.S. dollar amounts from written estimates. It does not fill in unquoted services, predict whether an extraction or other procedure will be needed, add taxes or insurance payments, or decide whether plans are medically comparable. Ask the clinic to explain the estimate and how any change will be discussed.
Questions for the veterinary team
- Which examination, anesthesia and monitoring, dental imaging, cleaning, and any proposed procedures are included in this estimate?
- What findings or circumstances could move the estimate toward its high end or beyond it?
- If additional work is considered during the visit, how will the clinic contact me and get authorization?
- Are medication, discharge instructions, and follow-up visits included, or quoted separately?
- What options are appropriate for this pet, and what are their expected benefits, risks, and costs?
AAHA’s dog and cat dental-care guidance describes dental examinations, radiography, cleaning, periodontal assessment, anesthesia, and related care as parts of veterinary dentistry. Which steps apply depends on the individual animal and veterinary assessment; this checklist is only for clarifying a written estimate.
For estimates involving other services, use the general veterinary quote worksheet. For household planning, see the pet cost planner and emergency fund planner.

How it works
Enter the same pet and proposed dental plan, transcribe each clinic's low and high estimate totals, and mark only the services explicitly listed as included. Record conditions and questions for the veterinary team. The worksheet compares entered ranges only; it does not estimate a dental bill or recommend a procedure.
Good to know
Why can dental estimates differ?
Written estimates may describe different included services, diagnostics, anesthesia or monitoring, and possible procedures. Ask each clinic to explain its estimate and any conditions; this tool does not determine whether plans are equivalent.
Does the checklist say which dental services my pet needs?
No. The checklist helps record what a clinic explicitly includes. A veterinary team determines what is appropriate for an individual animal after assessment.
Does this page give an average dental price?
No. It displays only written estimates you enter and arithmetic differences between their low and high endpoints.
Formula and attribution
Last updated:
per-clinic estimate range = visitor-entered low and high totals transcribed from that clinic's written dental estimate; range difference = one clinic's entered endpoint minus another clinic's corresponding endpoint
- pet_and_service_context (visitor-entered text): Shared description of the pet and proposed dental service, used to organize the comparison.
- written_estimate_low_and_high (USD per written estimate): Low and high totals copied by the visitor from each clinic's written estimate; the tool supplies no price.
- included_dental_items_and_open_questions (visitor checklist and notes): Services explicitly marked as included plus copied line descriptions, amounts, exclusions, conditions, and questions from the written estimate.
Output (USD per estimate): Displays up to four visitor-entered estimate ranges and arithmetic endpoint differences; does not assess dental need, treatment suitability, price reasonableness, or plan equivalence.
