Compare a wellness plan with your routine-care quotes

Compare a written wellness-plan fee, confirmed benefit maximum and your own routine-care quotes with transparent annual arithmetic. No assumed costs or coverage.

Compare a wellness or preventive-care plan using its written annual fee, the routine-care costs you expect and the benefit amount the provider confirms applies to those same services. Leave accident or illness bills out of this worksheet.

Enter the plan fee, written routine-care quote total and confirmed benefit maximum.

Annual plan fees = monthly fee × 12. Modeled plan cost = annual plan fees + max(0, entered routine-care quote total − confirmed benefit maximum). Out-of-pocket routine-care case = the entered quote total. Difference = modeled plan cost − out-of-pocket routine-care case. A positive difference means the modeled plan cost is higher for these inputs; a negative difference means it is lower. This compares only the entered routine-care scenario and is not a recommendation.

Benefit schedules may cap or exclude individual services, use eligibility rules, or apply other limits. Use a maximum confirmed for the same listed services and period; an overall headline limit may not equal the amount reimbursable for your quotes. Ask the plan provider and care provider to confirm scope, dates, fees and eligibility. Do not include accident or illness treatment in the routine-care total.

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners describes accident-only, accident-and-illness, and wellness coverage categories and notes that services and exclusions vary. The Pennsylvania Insurance Department describes wellness-type coverage for routine preventive care and says some plans offer it for an additional cost. Read the specific plan terms; this worksheet does not determine whether a plan is insurance or what it covers.

How it works

Enter the monthly plan fee, the benefit maximum confirmed for the same services and period, and your written routine-care quote total. The worksheet annualizes the fee, estimates the portion of those entered costs above the benefit maximum, and compares the result with paying the entered quotes directly.

Good to know

What does the comparison calculate?

It compares your entered annual plan fee plus the portion of your routine-care quote total above the confirmed benefit maximum with the full entered routine-care quote total. It does not include accident or illness bills, premiums for other coverage, taxes, fees or services you did not enter.

Can I enter the plan's advertised maximum benefit?

Only if the provider confirms it applies to the same services and period as your quotes. Some plans use separate service limits, eligibility rules or exclusions. A headline maximum may not be available for every listed service; check the contract and ask the provider.

Is a wellness plan the same as accident-and-illness insurance?

The NAIC describes separate accident-only, accident-and-illness and wellness coverage categories. The Pennsylvania Insurance Department says some plans offer wellness-type routine preventive care for an additional cost. Plan structures and terms vary, so confirm what the specific contract includes.

Does a lower modeled amount mean I should enroll?

No. This is arithmetic for only the routine-care amounts entered. It does not assess coverage quality, service timing, exclusions, cash-flow needs, other plan features or your circumstances, and it makes no value recommendation.

annual_plan_fee = monthly_plan_fee × 12; modeled_plan_cost = annual_plan_fee + max(0, routine_care_quote_total − confirmed_benefit_maximum); routine_only_cost = routine_care_quote_total; difference = modeled_plan_cost − routine_only_cost

Output (USD/year): Arithmetic comparison of annualized plan fees plus entered routine-care costs above a confirmed benefit maximum against the full entered routine-care quote total. Does not decide eligibility, coverage or value.
