Calculate your cat food cost per day, month, and year

Estimate cat food costs per day, month and year from package price, net quantity and a daily amount already chosen for each cat.

Estimate your cat food cost per day, 30.4-day month, and year from the package price and a daily amount you have already chosen for each cat. Package quantity and daily amount must use the same unit. For example, if a package contains 12 cans, enter 12 cans as the package quantity and enter the daily amount in cans. For weight-based portions, use matching weight units such as grams. This calculator does not recommend how much to feed.

Enter your package and feeding amounts, then calculate.

Method: package price ÷ package net quantity × daily amount per cat × cat count. Monthly estimate uses 30.4 days; yearly estimate uses 365 days. Assumes all listed cats eat the same daily amount and ignores waste, discounts, treats, other foods and portion changes.

Check the package’s net quantity and feeding directions. FDA says pet food labels include a net quantity statement; label guidance does not determine an individual cat’s needs. Ask your veterinary team what amount suits your cat. See the food budget guide for label-reading context and the nutritional adequacy statement guide to understand the complete-and-balanced claim. Use the pet food portion planner for label-calorie arithmetic and the pet cost planner for a broader household budget. Compare planned dry and wet portions with the dry versus wet food cost calculator. The separate dog food cost calculator uses the same method for dog-focused planning. Product referrals are inactive.

How it works

Enter the package price, package net quantity, daily amount already selected for each cat, and number of cats eating that amount. Package quantity and daily amount must use the same unit, such as grams or cans.

Good to know

How is cat food cost per month estimated?

The calculator divides package price by package net quantity, then multiplies by the daily amount entered for each cat and the number of cats. It multiplies the daily estimate by 30.4 for a monthly estimate and assumes every listed cat eats the same amount and that package and portion units match.

Does this calculator tell me how much to feed?

No. Enter an amount you have already chosen from the package directions or discussed with your veterinary team. Label directions do not determine every individual cat’s needs.

Does this compare nutrition or food quality?

No. It estimates only the cost represented by your inputs. It does not assess nutritional adequacy, suitability, or whether different foods are equivalent.

Formula and attribution

Last updated:

daily cost = (package price ÷ package net quantity) × daily feeding amount × number of cats; monthly estimate = daily cost × 30.4; yearly estimate = daily cost × 365

Output (USD): Arithmetic estimate of daily, 30.4-day-month and 365-day-year cat food spending from visitor inputs; excludes waste, discounts, other foods and changing portions.
