Pet Cost Planning Tools

Per-pet annual budget worksheet · Reviewed November 3, 2026

Build an annual budget for each pet

Add your own annual food, care and supplies budgets for each pet to see individual and household totals, with no assumed prices.

Build a yearly plan from your own food, care and supplies budgets or current quotes. Add one row per pet. This worksheet does not use market averages, decide what care is needed, or prescribe how shared costs should be split.

Annual amounts by pet

Enter annual amounts in dollars. Convert monthly quotes to annual figures before entering them. Leave a category blank or enter zero if you are not including it. Avoid entering a shared expense more than once.

Pet 1

Pet 2

2 pets listed (maximum 12).

Enter your annual amounts, then calculate.

Method: each pet total is the sum of that row's annual category amounts; the household total is the sum of all pet totals. Results include only the amounts you enter and exclude unlisted costs, price changes and unexpected expenses. If you budget a shared item, decide how to divide it and enter each pet's share only once.

Planning notes

Pet needs and care plans are individual. Use current local quotes and discuss care questions with a veterinary professional. The AVMA offers pet care planning resources; this calculator only organizes your own financial inputs.

For an even allocation of shared monthly expenses, use the multi-pet household budget allocator. The pet cost planner provides a simpler household estimate, while the dog food and cat food calculators estimate food costs from amounts already chosen.

How it works

Add a row for each pet and enter annual food, care, supplies and optional other amounts based on your own plans and current quotes. The worksheet sums each pet's entries and then the household total.

Good to know

How is each annual total calculated?

For each pet, the worksheet adds the annual food, care, supplies and other amounts you enter. It then adds the pet totals for a household total. If you start with monthly quotes, convert them to annual amounts before entering them; the worksheet does not convert or estimate prices.

Does this estimate typical pet costs or recommend a budget?

No. It uses only your own entries and does not provide market averages, required purchases or care recommendations.

How should I handle shared expenses?

Choose a reasonable split for your household before entering each pet's amount, or use the monthly household allocator for an even shared-cost split. Avoid counting the same shared cost in more than one pet row.
