Compare your pet insurance renewal premium and policy notes
Calculate the dollar and percentage change between current and renewal pet insurance premiums, annualize the entered billing amount, and record policy-term notes side by side.
Compare the premium shown on your current and renewal documents. Enter amounts for the same pet, policy, coverage period, and payment frequency; use the premium amount billed for that frequency. The result is arithmetic only.
Optional policy-term notes
Copy short notes from each document, such as deductible, reimbursement method or percentage, limits, exclusions, waiting periods, and effective dates. Confirm the full wording with the insurer; these notes are not checked or interpreted.
Enter both premium amounts from comparable documents.
Change per payment = renewal premium − current premium. Percentage change = change ÷ current premium × 100; when the current premium is $0, percentage change is not defined. Annualized amounts multiply each entered payment amount by the selected payments per year. This assumes the billing frequency and premium remain as entered for a full year.
NAIC explains that pet policy costs may depend on factors including species, breed, age, location, coverage, and deductible, and that coverage terms and reimbursement methods vary. This worksheet cannot identify whether or why a specific renewal amount changed. Ask the insurer to explain the renewal notice and confirm whether any policy terms changed.
Read the pet insurance policy checklist and use the insurance quote comparison or reimbursement estimator for their separate purposes. No product referrals are active.
Entries are processed in this page in your browser; this worksheet does not submit them. Use the button to clear entered values. Normal page requests may appear in hosting logs; see the privacy information.
How it works
Enter the premium amounts from comparable current and renewal documents and choose the number of payments per year. The calculator reports per-payment and annualized dollar changes and percentage change; optional text fields let you keep side-by-side policy notes in this browser.
Good to know
How is the renewal premium change calculated?
The worksheet subtracts the current per-payment premium from the renewal per-payment premium. It divides that difference by the current per-payment premium for a percentage change; percentage change is undefined when the current amount is zero. Annualized amounts multiply the entered amounts by the selected number of payments per year.
Can the calculator explain why the premium changed?
No. It compares amounts only. NAIC lists several factors that may affect pet policy costs, but this worksheet cannot identify the reason for an individual renewal. Ask the insurer to explain the notice and confirm the policy terms.
What should I compare in the renewal documents?
Check the full policy and renewal notice for premium, effective dates, deductible, reimbursement terms, applicable limits, exclusions, waiting periods, and any other changed wording. The optional notes are for your own record and are not validated or interpreted by this tool.
Does a higher or lower premium mean I should switch?
No. The calculator makes no recommendation. Premium arithmetic does not compare coverage, exclusions, claims handling, future renewal prices, or your circumstances. Review written terms and contact your state insurance department for consumer questions.

- optional_policy_term_notes (text notes): Visitor-entered, browser-only notes copied from policy documents; not checked, interpreted, or transmitted by the worksheet.
Output (USD per payment, USD per year, and percent change): Arithmetic comparison and annualization of visitor-entered premium amounts; assumes inputs share a billing basis and remain unchanged through the year. It does not explain a price change, interpret policy terms, determine coverage, or recommend switching.
