Pet Cost Planning Tools

Pet flight trip-cost worksheet · Reviewed November 3, 2026

Plan pet flight costs from your confirmed quotes

Add airline, carrier, ground transport, veterinary document, lodging, and other confirmed trip costs to estimate a pet flight budget.

Build a trip budget from the amounts you have confirmed for your route, dates, pet, and travel arrangement. Enter each category’s total for the trip you are planning, in U.S. dollars. The calculator adds your entries; it does not look up current fares or decide which rules apply.

Enter confirmed trip amounts; leave unknown costs blank until you have a quote.

Method: trip estimate = airline pet charges + carrier/crate + ground transport + veterinary visit/documents + lodging + other entered costs. Blank fields count as $0, so the result is a subtotal of entered amounts, not proof that all trip costs are included. Enter the total for the planned itinerary in each category; apply any per-leg or per-pet quote basis yourself before entering it.

Confirm whether each written quote is per pet, direction, segment, night, or booking and whether taxes or extra handling charges apply. Keep the route, travel dates, operating airline, stops, pet details, and quote date with your notes. Airline policies and destination rules can vary; this worksheet does not determine eligibility, documentation, carrier dimensions, fees, or entry requirements.

Check current travel requirements

For travel from the United States to another country, USDA APHIS directs travelers to check the destination’s current requirements and recommends contacting a USDA-accredited veterinarian early. APHIS also says airlines may have different or additional requirements. Use its live travel pages for the relevant route, then verify airline rules and any transit-country requirements directly before booking.

For a domestic trip, verify state or territory rules and the airline’s current policy. Requirements and prices can change after you make this estimate. For a broader official starting point, see the USDA APHIS pet travel guide. If your route includes overnight stops, use the pet travel lodging itinerary planner to organize dated lodging quotes separately. For other trip-planning amounts, see the pet cost planner.

How it works

Enter confirmed trip totals for the listed cost categories in U.S. dollars. The worksheet adds only the amounts entered; blank fields count as zero. It does not look up fees or interpret airline or destination rules.

Good to know

What costs should I include?

Enter current written amounts for airline pet charges, carrier or crate, ground transport, veterinary visit and travel documents, lodging, and other confirmed trip costs. Confirm whether each quote is per pet, direction, segment, night, or booking, then enter a total for your planned itinerary.

Does the result include every fee?

Only if you entered it. Blank fields count as zero, so the result may be an incomplete subtotal. Verify taxes, handling fees, quote validity, and included items with each provider.

Can this worksheet tell me whether my pet can fly?

No. Airline policies and route requirements vary and can change. Check the current USDA APHIS information for the route, ask the airline operating each segment, and contact a USDA-accredited veterinarian for international export requirements when applicable.

Output (USD per planned itinerary): Subtotal of visitor-entered amounts only; does not find current fees, establish full cost, or determine route eligibility.
